Aunes is considered 'fringe' for a piralan. He's generally playful but easygoing and a bit antisocial, and passionate when riled. He also dislikes most other males. He is far more friendly to women of any species, though, and in fact, he lives with a human woman of his own accord - though the two are not, as it may seem to those who see them together, married or mated.

Some years ago, his eccentricities drew him to Sanctuary, to attempt - even as a young adult, despite that they wanted hatchlings and newborns - the bonding ceremony that they advertised. It was set up that he was to be bonded to a human woman, a minor member of the human royal family - Faccie fa Edilion. Aunes and Faccie were one of the original Avengaean bonding attempts, kept private knowledge to those involved and years before the Bonding Project was officially initiated. They were one of the attempts that failed. Though the spell that was meant to join their minds didn't succeed as planned, a bond remains between the two and they can tell when the other is around, and get a sense of some of the stronger emotions.

Aunes loves travel, and though he has his home with Faccie in the Avengaean Nidus he often takes extended trips to visit distant parts of Avengaea. He works on and off as a mapmaker for the Sanctuary archives, which is how he makes his living for himself and Faccie. He's also learned to be a proficient hunter, which is very strange for an asandus, as most don't kill their own food.
